Assessment Process and Next Steps

An autism assessment is not about putting a label on someone — it’s about gaining clarity, understanding, and a practical roadmap for support.

For many adults, teens, and children, questions about autism have been present for years: struggles with social connection, sensory sensitivities, communication differences, anxiety, or feeling “out of sync” with others. A comprehensive evaluation helps make sense of these experiences and turns confusion into direction.

The autism assessment will be comprised of a clinical interview lasting about three hours, as well as completion of several assessments by the client and those who are familiar with the client’s developmental history. Once the full assessment process is completed, the results will compiled into a full report which will include diagnosis information (i.e. a diagnosis of autism if applicable), as well as next steps and recommendations for treatment.

Autism Assessment FAQs

  • At the outset of the clinical interview, we will ask you easy questions- your name, your address, contact information, etc. During this time, we will do everything we can to create a calm, welcoming environment for you. The rest of the interview will focus on family and educational history, as well as questions about socialization, emotions, relationships, work, sensory preferences, and behaviors.

  • Once the clinical interview has been completed and the assessments have been scored, your autism assessment report will be sent to you in about two weeks.

  • Yes! We will do everything we can to make you feel comfortable, and that includes short breaks as needed. We will also check in with you on your sensory preferences at the beginning of the interview (i.e. lighting, sound, etc) to ensure that the process is as tolerable as possible for you.
